NZHA Parent Verification and Genetic Disease rules. From 1 January 2014, ALL NZHA registered bulls (of any age, including calves) sold for transfer must have a DNA profile, be correctly sire verified a and be Hypotrichosis, Diluter and Idiopathic Epilepsy tested and declared free. And from the 1st January 2020 must have a minimum 50k SNP DNA profile and SNP Sire verified. From 1 Jan 2016, ALL females sold for transfer must be sire verified. (dispensation granted for females born before and including 2013) and tested for hypotrichosis, diluter and idiopathic epilepsy, with results declared. All joining sires born after 1st Jan 2019 must be sire verified using a minimum of a 50K SNP test and NZHA council recommend that best practice is be to verify the dam as well.
- Rules and Regulations:
All animals, embryos and semen imported to New Zealand after 1 November 2017, are to be SNP DNA tested (minimum 50K profile) and correctly parent verified, with the documents lodged with the NZ Hereford Association office, prior to entry to New Zealand. (Blood typing is acceptable for genetic material imported prior to 2005).
